Pakistan Assembled Civic (Part 3 - ES)

For Part 2 please follow this link : http://ecarpak.blogspot.com/2015/01/pakistan-assembled-civic-part-2-ek.html

I remember clearly when I went to see this car early in 2001, it was a Shalimar Rose colored VTi Oriel Prosmatec that I saw at Honda Shahrah-e-Faisal. I was accompanied by a friend of mine (don't know where that bugger is now, haven't heard from him in a long time). At that time I along with this friend of mine used to visit all the dealerships and check out any car that was then launched. Few weeks prior to Civic we had seen Kia Spectra which we then thought was promising and a strong contender however the initial feel of Civic had blown Spectra out of the window.

Like always ES was offered with many first timer stuff, initially I was disappointed because the automatic radio antenna on trunk which was a status symbol for VTi was missing, upon asking the sales rep I was informed that it was replaced by the screen embedded radio as standard in all EXi & VTi variants, I saw a new sticker on car which read "Prosmatec" again on inquiry I was told that its the new fancy name for automatic transmission which in later years I discovered was infect Progressive Shift Management Technology meaning finally the days of "getting huge jerks on every gear change in automatic civic" were over. Civic also had retractable mirrors for the first time offered in VTi variant. Rest optional leather seats, sunroof, 6 CD changer in trunk, Alloy Rims (but 15" instead of 14" from older generation) were continued from previous generation of Honda Civic, rear flat floor was also offered for the first time which made a very ugly visual when looking from rear however the rear seats became more comfortable. I personally love ES and would still prefer it over FD (newer model) because of its handling & visibility. Later after the face-lift ES also became the first Civic in Pakistan offered with Beige Interior, Optitron Meter & Dual bulb headlight. One more thing, this time VTi also had ABS breaks.

ES was offered with two engine sizes like the previous generation EXi being 1.5 and VTi Being 1.6 liter engine, Also the option of Prosmatec was available in EXi while VTi was also offered with optional Sunroof (Oriel) & Leather Seats (UG)

In the beginning of 2002 Toyota Indus finally offered Corolla E120 after selling E100 for over a decade, E120 was grand in every manner and offered a lot that people had never seen or heard of before which is why sales of Honda Civic took an impact and were hit badly, it took another year for Honda to recover and form a strategy and thus the first face-lift was offered in summer of 2003. Civic received redesigned tail lights, Alloy Rims for VTi were redesigned, standard headrests with rear sears & beige interior (following foot-steps of Corolla), and Optitron meter as a standard across EXi & VTi variants (which was only offered in top of the line Corolla).

Later in 2004 Civic received 2nd face-lift which was as per the plan and then front headlights & bumper were changed which made ES the only Civic till date to receive 2 face-lifts.
