E Bike Pakistan

Yesterday Pakistan's first all electric scooter was launched at a ceremony held at sea view Karachi. The company is calling it e bike but in reality it is a scooter given name of bike to make the youth accept it.

These scooters are presently available in three different models with price ranging from Rs.88,900/- to Rs.95,900/- and they have a very minor difference among them.

These scooters are basically some Chinese brand being imported and sold here by a local vendor and unlike the Chinese cars our market is very welcoming to Chinese bikes. Now the question is are we going to react the same way towards Scooters as well? I hope the benefits of E Bike make people change their mind towards the perception of a Scooter.

My second concern is about the running of this. In Pakistan we have a lot of our areas where the load shedding is for more than 12 hours a day; E Bike doesn't take a lot of electricity and they say it can be charged like a laptop but the answer I'm not able to find out is how long does it take to charge the battery because if I'm a buyer I need to know whether I will have continuous power supply for that long or not.

To cover the details the company is claiming the e bike to have a top speed of 60 km / hr and a full charged battery will go upto 100 kms and one battery is good for 50,000 kms which means it can be charged 500 times after which replacement battery is provided by the vendor for Rs.12,000/-. Now the catch here is that it will require a certain voltage to charge and we all know how voltage fluctuates in summers. I hope the company has all those answers.

The concept of ECO friendly scooter is very nice and healthy for the motor scene of Pakistan and I always encourage new options to enter the market and break the running monopoly of old winners; my three major concerns related to e bike are:

1. How fast does it charge and do we have that kind of electricity available.

2. What is the quality of components used in this Scooter.

3. How would the E Bike react in rain when roads are flooded with water.

The bike costs close to One Hundred Thousand Rupees and the company is targeting two wheel drivers which means the target market of E Bike is white collar working class and for them the price of E Bike is a handsome amount; how would they react?

This is all just one guy's opinion. I would like to wish all the best to E Bike Pakistan

Update:

After publishing the blog & going through the company's website I found out two more things;

1. Charging time of batter is between 6 - 8 hours which means you need to have continuous electricity with proper voltage; load shedding means you cannot charge it and voltage fluctuations will be its biggest enemies for some components are bound to get cooked.

2. The company is saying its an advantage that you don't need to get E Bike registered since its less than 50cc BUT is it really an advantage in a country where we have so many street crimes? a legal bike without number plates on the road; imagine how that will work out for law n order situation of country. Secondly what if you have one of these and it gets stolen; how hard do you think it'll be to find one without number plate and no record with excise and taxation department.

After finding these two things my faith in E Bike has decreased but its just one guy's opinion.
