“Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool”
We often see car crashes and most of the time we blame the quality of car for the accident, “I hear people saying oh it’s a Civic why do you treat it like a Ferrari” now this implies two things; first being why does one push a Civic to the limits of Ferrari and other as if a Ferrari is crash proof where first is correct however the later doesn’t stand correct. There are many factors that can be a cause of accident and the car is the least possible cause to be blamed.
Drink and Drive – Now this scenario is not very common in our part of the world however it does exist; now how can the car or the alcohol is responsible if a person is driving car while in the influence of alcohol? It is not advisable to drive a car while you’re drunk and yet if you choose to drive the car after you’ve had too many to drink. It’s like saying it’s the fault of chicken that it went to the butcher to be slaughtered.

Operating Cell Phone – There’s a lot of emphasis in media these days on not using your cell phone while driving a car. Calling, texting, taking photographs or doing social media; all of them will divert your attention off the road which means you are an easy target for the accident.
Pushing a Vehicle Beyond its Limits – Now with every car there’s an initial speed; then there’s a speed of comfort and then there’s a speed of its limit; initial speed is where the car is picking up its pace; speed of comfort varies from car to car as for smaller cars the speed of comfort is slower compared to bigger cars; speed of comfort is a speed where you’re driving car and it feels comfortable neither too slow nor too fast, speed of limit is the speed where the car is fast enough for that car, it will be fast but if you go any faster the car will lose its control. Now the limit speed might be 80 km / hr for a Mehran and 110 km / hr for Corolla and may be 200 km / hr for a Skyline depending on its setup. It doesn’t mean that these cars won’t go beyond the speed of limit. If pushed then these cars will go faster however the car wasn’t designed or tuned to go higher than that and if you’re pushing it beyond its limit then the car will lose control; it doesn’t matter what car it is, Rowan Atkinson (Mr.Bean) crashed his McLaren F1 after he lost control of the car. Now that doesn’t mean that McLaren F1 is not a good sports car; it only means that when you push a car beyond its limits; it will result ugly.
Driver’s limit – Every driver has his own limits just like every car has its own limits; if you’re a driver who has only driven a Suzuki Cultus your entire life then even if I give you a Honda City one day then it is a new car for you; you’re used to driving a Cultus and you know how to handle it; you may be very good driver on a Cultus but it doesn’t mean you’re a very good driver overall and if you try to act like a smart ass and try to handle City just the way you do on Cultus it is possible that you will fall in harm’s way. If you’re not used to driving a certain car then it is always advisable to drive it extremely carefully before you get a hang of it. Drive the car as per your limits not the car’s if you’re not used to to the new car.
Bad Road Conditions – We live in Pakistan where every few days we see a new road either being constructed or an old one being dug up for repair works. Now it is possible that you use a road on daily basis and it is a smooth road however one day when you decide to speed and push the car the road can be dug up which means your car can go flying into a ditch.
Faulty Vehicle – Last year on Nov 30th actor Paul Walker along with his friend Rogers Rodas died in a car accident; Rodas who was behind the steering wheel was a professional race car driver so he knew how to drive; the car they were in was a Porsche Carrera GT which is a hyper car and is made to be driven at high speeds yet they came across an accident which caused them both to die on the spot. Now it is said that the car was not frequently used and thus it is possible that the car had some mechanical faults or may be the tires were not up to the mark. Whatever the fault may be in the car but it is most likely to assume that the car had some mechanical issue which caused the accident. So if you have a car that you wish to push to its limits; it is always advisable to keep a close eye on the maintenance of vehicle to avoid accidents.
There are Others on the Road – Lastly you’re not the only one on road; I advise everyone driving that you need to drive as if you’re the only one on the road who has eyes; in our part of the world the motorcyclist don’t even consider it anything if their bike scratches your car’s door mirror or bumper while they are trying to squeeze out in a tight traffic spot. So in a country like that you are sole responsible for your car and making sure you’re safe from all the idiots and Michael Schumachers on the road.
In the end I would like to conclude by saying that no matter what you do always have the car in your control not you in control of the car; your loved ones are at home waiting for you
