Rain in a country like Pakistan aren't blessing for all, specially in Karachi we have water on the roads & we wish to have boats instead of cars to reach home. Here are a few things you need to be careful of and then everything will be fine...
How to avoid getting stuck in the middle of nowhere - When the road looks like the one above the problem most of us face is that water enters engine of the car and then you find yourself standing next to a dead car with water above and under you. Here's something pretty simple that you can do to avoid, first of all try to reach something safe where you can park your car on some place dry; here's how you can go in the water and yet avoid your car dying on the way. Its one simple thing, water enters the engine from your exhaust pipe that is why most of people tie a rubber pipe with exhaust so it works like a snorkel and the opening is at a higher place however if you find yourself in a position where you cannot arrange a rubber pipe then while driving make your right foot is on the accelerator and engine is at least between 2500 - 3000 RPM at all times, if there's exhaust coming out from engine with a certain pressure then it can fight the water trying to get in. When you have your right foot constantly engaged with accelerator then it means you need to brake with your left foot and please remember our left foot is more tuned to pressing the clutch so when you do apply the brake with left foot your foot will apply a lot more pressure on brake than its required (since you need to press clutch with more force) so be very cautious when applying the break with left foot.
Car needs a Shower too - Whenever we get wet in rain the first thing we do after getting home is take a shower, ever wonder why? I mean rain is also water and we were in it that's why soaking wet then why take a shower? Because rain water is salty and we need clean water to clean ourselves. Your car needs the same... After rain all the oiling in the under carriage is washed and it gets dry, also brakes are dried up, also rain water is still somewhat there which can cause rust in the car, so once its back to being nice & sunny its time to give your car a detailed service and it'll reward you back by being a nice and trouble free car.
Night Driving - Water and darkness are two things that will effect your vision and when its a combination of both then the vision is worst, there are bikes / rickshaws with faulty taillights so it is always advisable to keep your car at low speed and be very cautious; its better to be safe than sorry.
Wiper Blades & Window Washer - Something I've noticed that 90% of cars in Pakistan either have worn out wiper blades or their window washers don't work; when you ask the owner he says that its not needed that much; both these things don't cost a lot and its always advisable to make sure you have working wipers & washer because there are times when it only drizzles and the dust on your windshield joins the water to effect your vision, in such a situation if you use your faulty wipers then it further messes up with your vision because the wiper is not capable of doing its job.
Brakes - Rain does effect the braking ability of your car due to water there; Your brakes are only 60% good when driving in rain; this is something you need to be careful of as well when driving in rain.
