I've seen many times people fussing over high mileage of cars being Imported from Japan & UK etc. Here's some clarification on that. When a car is used in Pakistan we gauge how the car is used with its mileage however that isn't the case with imported used cars and there's a complete logic behind it. In Pakistan we have bad road conditions, people don't maintain their cars and the cars are used with faults which lead to the faults / problems increasing in a car and eventually wearing down the car's condition.
On the contrary, when a car is used abroad they have some rules & regulations which they strictly follow. Such include periodic inspection of car & then if there're any faults identified during those inspections then the car is not allowed on road unless those problems are solved with required repairs / replacement. One more thing that plays the role is road conditions abroad, they have better roads without any doubt and if the car is used on a proper road then obviously there won't be many faults occurring in the first place and that all sums ups to the car being in a good condition despite carrying a high mileage.
On the basis of above I won't be wrong to state that if a car is driven for 50,000 kms abroad is equally wore down compared to another car which is 15,000 kms in Pakistan due to their better roads & regulations.
Now here's the catch, because of our mentality used car dealers use it to their advantage and use it as a sales pitch that the car is so less driven thus it has to be good, they play with our psychology, they even temper with mileage of car just because the car is in good condition & they know tempering with mileage will get them a higher price. Now answer this yourself, if you have a choice between a car that is 1600 kms driven but had a major accident & then repaired or another car that is 100000 driven but it in a very good nick without any accidents and properly maintained, which of the two would you choose?
Now I better run for cover :-)
